the
AUSTRALIAN LABOR PARTY in BENDIGO

Congratulations!

The famous 1972 'Its Time' campaign Poster 'Equal Pay for Equal Work' poster from the 1950'sIf you join a branch of the ALP in the Bendigo FEA you will become part of an organisation with a history stretching back to before the beginning of the 20th century. The Australia Labor Party is one of the oldest true labour parties in the world, and has a long and strong record of achievement.

Many of the benefits we take for granted today are the result of years of work by the Labor Party and the Trade Union movement. Working conditions, pensions, health care, decent wages, and many, many more things that are today at risk are the result of successive Labor governments at both State and Federal level.

We welcome you, and look forward to sharing with you our camaraderie and common purpose as we together make Australia a better place for all members of our community.

To join a Branch, a prospective member must attend a meeting of the branch they wish to join and be accepted by the branch members. Upon acceptance, which is not a difficult thing at all to achieve, the prospective member will be handed an application form which will need to be filled out, and then signed by the secretary of the branch. All that is left after that is the payment of the membership fee, which is a graduated amount depending on income. The membership is then processed by Head Office and you are welcomed to the branch. To join the ALP in Victoria without belonging to a particular branch, which suits some people who do not wish to be active or to vote in internal ballots, visit the State Branch membership website here.

Once a member, various periods of time must elapse before you are eligible to vote in some internal elections, and from then on your membership needs to be renewed each year to maintain you right to vote in internal elections, or to stand for positions within the party, or indeed for pre-selection.

The Bendigo Federal Electorate Assembly (FEA) has five branches, which are listed on the home page. To join any of the branches, simply turn up to the meeting and introduce yourself. If this is a bit daunting, then contact the secretary of the branch using the e-mail link on each branch page, or the one below, for the branch of your choice.
